Volunteer

Volunteer applicants should be familiar with issues impacting the Latin@ community, be bilingual, and willing to work to empower the community. Volunteers at Mujeres will gain knowledge and experience in working with crisis situations regarding domestic violence and sexual assault, working with our afterschool programs for teens, helping in voting and citizenship campaigns, aiding in supervising child visitation sessions, or even helping our Development team in securing donations or organizing events to make sure our programs can continue to serve our community.

Volunteer with the Domestic Violence Program (DV)

DV Program volunteers must become Illinois 42 hr. Domestic Violence certified. Volunteers are provided with opportunities to provide some direct client services to survivors affected by domestic violence and may participate in various outreach events to increase awareness on this issue and take part agency organized advocacy efforts.

Qualifications:

  •  Must be 18 years of age or older
  •  Fluent in both English and Spanish
  • Willing to complete the Illinois 42-hr training on domestic violence or have previously completed the training
  • 42 Hour Domestic Violence Training is offered twice a year in January and July
  •  Interested applicants may submit applications two months prior to the start of training

Volunteer with the Sexual Assault Program (SA)

SA Program volunteers receive a 42 hr. sexual assault training and then will provide direct services to survivors affected by sexual assault, primarily as medical advocates. They can also participate in various outreach events to increase awareness on sexual assault issues and take part in agency organized advocacy efforts. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have flexibility in regards to times as they will be on call after hours
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish
  • Willing to complete the Sexual Assault 42-hr Training or have completed one before commencing volunteer duties
  • 42hr Sexual Assault Training is offered twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall
  • Interested applicants can submit application two months prior to the start of their training

Youth Program

Volunteer with Youth Program and gain hands-on-experience working with children ages 8 months -18 years old.  Gain social services experience and have fun while engaging with our youth and youth staff team.  

Qualifications:

  • Must be over 19 years of age (14-17 years of age can volunteer with our Child Care Services ONLY)
  • Responsible, dependable and adaptable to changing volunteer duties
  • Creativity to help assist or facilitate with daily activities
  • Energetic, open-minded, and able to connect and communicate well with youth
  • Bilingual (any language)
  • Strong ability to think well under stress, strong communication, and a team player
  • Strong ability for prioritizing and multi-tasking

Empresarias del Futuro (EDF)

EDF volunteers support program staff through administrative assistance and data collection. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to engage in advocacy and outreach efforts on behalf of the program. Specifically the program is looking for assistance with follow up calls and event logistics for an annual program event.

Qualifications:

  • At least High School level/Equivalent
  • Computer skills and ability to use Office Word , Power Point, Publisher and Excel required
  • Flexibility to work and co-locate in different sites and after 9-5 hours
  • Bilingual, Spanish/English required
  • Commitment to work at least three months with the EDF program and volunteer at least once a week
  • DV 42hr trained volunteers preferred

Parent Support

The program is designed to provide court-ordered supervised parenting time to parents who do not have physical custody of their children. Our volunteers are trained to ensure the safety of the children while facilitating the supervised parenting time and completing observation reports afterwards.

Qualifications:

  • Must be over the age of 18
  • Ability to work late afternoons and/or Saturdays
  • Committed to a consistent schedule
  • Feel comfortable communicating in English and Spanish
