CHICAGO—President and CEO of Mujeres Latinas en Acción has been named a “Woman of Influence” by The Chicago Business Journal. Earlier this fall, The Chicago Business Journal put a call out to their readers asking for nominations of female business leaders in the Chicagoland area “who innovate, succeed and pay it forward.”  Pesqueira was selected due to her nonprofit leadership experience, strong commitment to the Latino community and women’s issues, and her philanthropic track record, which spans across more than two decades. As a longstanding community and civic leader currently celebrating 15 years at the helm of Mujeres Latinas en Acción, Pesqueira has also served on the board of many organizations including Illinois Partners for Human Services, the National Council of La Raza, and the Community Memorial Foundation’s executive committee.

Pesqueira remarked, “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Chicago business community, especially as we see Latina women’s continued growth and success across the business sector.” In response to this trend, Mujeres Latinas en Acción developed a program designed for women who want to initiate or expand a small business. The “Empresarias del Futuro” program, trains participants with leadership, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship tools that support women in business and help then on the road to obtaining financial independence.

Alongside 49 other esteemed women leaders, Pesqueira will be honored at the second annual Women of Influence Luncheon scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 2016. The luncheon will be a celebration of the honorees and will feature a panel discussion focused on how these women pay it forward and the importance of mentorship. The Women of Influence program is part of a national effort by American City Business Journals in order to identify and celebrate women business leaders and to foster business environments that will create even more successful women in the future.
