This year, instead of having two separate performances, one in English and one in Spanish, we will be having a singular bilingual performance event directed by Norma Seledon. The evening will also feature an exhibit of original artwork curated by Nancy Villafranca, owner of Olin Studio.

 

 

 

Call for submissions

Mujeres Latinas en Acción is inviting women to tell their story in their own words. The event will highlight work from Latinas who will tell the stories of our community. The written pieces can be submitted either Spanish or English.

 

Guidelines for Submissions of Original Artwork:

In addition to fulfilling the primary criteria of interpreting the theme (Sexual Violence & Latinas) and ensuring that the theme is uplifting and empowering, there are a few additional criteria to consider when submitting a work of art for consideration.  

The work must:

·be two-dimensional

·be completed by April 8th, 2016

·be no larger than 3 feet wide or 3 feet tall

·reflect creativity and originality

Please submit the following via email to: Maritza@mujereslat.org by April 8th, 2016:

·An image of your completed artwork saved with the title and your last name as the filename

·Within the body of the email please include your full contact information, the title of your work, the dimensions, the medium, a brief description of the work, and a short biography (limit 100 words)

Please only one submission per person. You will be notified by April 15th, if your work is included.  Thank you for participating!

 

Guidelines for Submission of Original Creative Writing:

  • The works should deal with sexual violence and Latinas around the topic of perseverance
  • The works can be poetry, spoken word, short essay, etc..
  • Bilingual
  • 3-5 minutes long

Spectrum of submission topics:

  •  Border crossing
  •  Maquiladoras/Cuidad Juarez
  •  Elderly
  • Youth
  • LGBT/Transgender
  • Immigration
