Mujeres offers individuals many opportunities to give back to the community as a volunteer. Volunteers help the organization fulfill its mission to empower Latinas, their families and youth.

Volunteer opportunities at Mujeres vary from length of commitment and area of interest. Here are some examples:

Medical Advocates

Medical advocate volunteers receive 40-hours of state-certified training to help adult victims of sexual abuse. After completing the training, volunteersare required to make a six-month commitment to provide assistance to sexual assault survivors with local hospitals.

Bilingual Crisis Help Line

Volunteers in this program respond to calls on Mujeres’s domestic violence bilingual crisis help line. Volunteers attend 40 hours of state-certified training. After completing the training, volunteers are required to make a six-month commitment to answer calls.

Other Opportunities

Every April, volunteers create and distribute information on sexual assault resources.

Volunteers are also needed during October, which is Domestic Violence awareness month.

Other volunteer opportunities to speak with others about domestic violence arise during health fairs.

At the Chicago/Pilsen and Cicero offices, volunteers are needed to conduct client intakes of survivors

of domestic abuse and for related administrative tasks.

Volunteers assist clients in filling out forms for citizenship. Training is provided.

During the annual holiday party and during other high volume periods, volunteers are needed to help families in the supervised visitation program.

Volunteer tutors are needed to help children with homework and other school assignments.

Chaperones and athletic coaches are also needed for Mujeres’s youth programs.

Child care volunteers are needed to supervise children ages 9 months to 12 years.

Individuals are welcome to volunteer his or her specific expertise in other areas.
