Mujeres Latinas en Acción has a long history of serving youth in the Pilsen neighborhood. Proyecto Juventud offers young people aged 11 through 17 a variety of structured activities during non-school hours to promote academic success, community involvement and leadership development.

Young people in this program receive daily tutoring and

homework assistance. They can access computers, printers and the Internet for their schoolwork.

In addition to academic support, Project Youth also offers young people recreational activities,

helping to increase participants’ self-esteem. Activities may include field trips to Chicago-area attractions and playing sports like swimming, and arts and crafts.

Proyecto Juventud participants may benefit from counseling.

For mothers and daughters, Proyecto Juventud has a special

15-week program to improve communication and strengthen relationships. Mothers and daughters in the group talk about different topics that affect the young women’s lives. Topics range from sexuality and reproductive rights to culture and religion to giving and receiving constructive criticism.
