Sexual Assault Community Educator

BASIC FUNCTION: Provides sexual assault education, medical advocacy, workshops, and professional training to community groups, schools, and social service providers. In collaboration with medical/legal advocates provide after-hour coverage for medical and criminal justice advocacy.

REPORTS TO: Director, Sexual Assault Program

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide standby call after-hour coverage for medical and criminal justice advocacy, which may include responding to clients’ needs within 60 minutes at the emergency room to discuss options as well as explain proceedings.
  2. Collaborate with the Director of the Sexual Assault Program on outreach strategies to secure presentations.
  3. Provide and develop workshops to various community groups on the subjects of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and special issues affecting Latine survivors.
  4. Increase awareness of services and resources to survivors of sexual assault through internally and externally outreach
  5. Maintains accurate records of all outreach efforts and outcomes.
  6. Develops written objectives for each presentation conducted and administer evaluation forms to monitor the impact of workshops.
  7. Assist with compliance with reports required by funding entities and program requirements.
  8. Provides crisis intervention, information & referrals, and linkages to survivors of sexual assault as needed after presentations.
  9. Advocate at the institutional level on behalf of Latinas through participation in advisory groups and other coalitions that focus on the issue of sexual violence.
  10. Participate in administrative supervision meetings with the sexual assault program director.
  11. Provide professional training for social workers, prosecutors, communities, and others in the area of sexual violence.
  12. Increase awareness of the program in all service areas that Mujeres serves, including the surrounding Cook County area with a high concentration of Latine including Brighton Park and North Riverside, but not limited to these areas.
  13. Participate in the delivery of the SA 42-hour training.
  14. Develop, sustain, and manage professional relationships with other partner organizations and keep an updated list of all the professional relationships.
  15. Lead strategic execution to achieve assigned prevention program goals
  16. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social service field or equivalent
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills
  • Must have daily use of a car, current auto insurance, and valid driver’s license
  • Sexual Assault 40-hour train preferred
  • The position requires occasional work on evenings or weekends

SALARY

$44,000-$48,000
