Parent Support Counselor (Home Based)

BASIC FUNCTION: Provides trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally responsive services to parents and caregivers. Responsibilities include conducting intakes, assessments, treatment, and safety planning, offering individual and group psychoeducation, counseling, crisis intervention, community education, and home visits for families with DCFS cases. The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation, reporting processes, engaging in outreach, advocacy and attending professional development trainings, and coordinating care with internal and external resources. Additionally, the counselor supports institutional advocacy for Latine survivors and may work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet client needs.

REPORTS TO: PS/SVSE Program Director

LOCATION: Hybrid (3 days In Person – Home-Based & Pilsen*) *May require travel to other sites, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Engage and provide counseling, psychoeducation, and advocacy services to identify participants through individual and group services, as appropriate.
  2. Perform intakes, determine eligibility criteria, and provide information, referrals, and linkages to survivors of domestic violence through walk-in, telephone, and scheduled intake services.
  3. Conduct comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment plans, and safety plans, using a participant-centered, trauma-informed, strength-based, and culturally responsive approach.
  4. Provide regular home visits to participants opting for home-based services.
  5. Coordinate care with internal and external linkages and referrals to address participants’ additional needs.
  6. Provide psychoeducation, intensive case management, crisis intervention, community referrals, and advocacy services to survivors. These services may be provided in home, community, Mujeres’ offices, or virtually, following participant preference.
  7. Participates in clinical reviews of cases as well as internal/external meetings.
  8. Complete accurate documentation of services rendered to program participants and maintain compliance with documentation standards as indicated by program, grant and organizational requirements. Also participates in ongoing file reviews.
  9. Participates in reporting process, assists with statistic data gathering, and evaluation program needs, as appropriate.
  10. Advocates at the institutional level on behalf of Latines through participation in advisory groups and other coalitions, as needed.
  11. Supports efforts to promote awareness of child abuse and neglect through community events and campaigns including but not limited to Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.
  12. Participate in staff training sessions, in-services, staff meetings, clinical supervision, and professional group seminars or conferences to increase professional knowledge and enhance job skills.
  13. Assist with special projects assigned by the program’s leadership.
  14. Participate in the planning and delivery 22 hour PAIP training, community education, outreach and continuing education.
  15. Provides prompt updates of external meetings to direct supervisor and ensures appropriate updates are provided to PS team during team meetings.
  16. Will be required to work evening and/or Saturday hours to meet participants’ scheduling needs.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in social services, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Bilingual, bicultural (Spanish/English) required.
  • 40-Hour ICADV Domestic Violence trained preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate skills and abilities to advocate for diverse populations
  • Experience working in community or home-based positions
  • Access to reliable vehicle/transportation.

SALARY

$49,000 – $57,500
