Shatna Osorno,
Director of Parent Support Program

Shatna Osorno started working at Mujeres in February of 2018. She wanted to be part of a team impassioned to empower women and their families by providing resources that will help them improve their lives, the lives of their children, and on a larger scale, the Latina community as a whole.

Shatna grew up in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, where she started her studies at the University of Veracruz before being given the opportunity to transfer to the University of Illinois at Chicago and finish a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Shatna went on to earn my Master’s Degree in Psychology from National Louis University.

Over the last ten years, Shatna has been involved in working with women and their families in a variety of roles. During her undergraduate internship in clinical psychology, she provided pain therapy, relaxation techniques, and advocacy for women diagnosed with cancer in Xalapa, Veracruz. Later, when she first arrived to the United States, she helped run a Women’s Circle (Circulo de Mujeres) at King- Chavez Elementary School, in San Diego California. This organization was a local non-profit aimed at educating young women in an atmosphere that promoted academic success and healthy living. Upon arriving to Chicago, she volunteered in Chicago Women’s Health Center to get involved with specific issues of gender, power, and equity. Later, Shatna also began providing emotional training activities to children and women, at the Connection for Abused Women and their Children.

Shatna is very passionate about the Positive Disciple Parent Education techniques based on the theories of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs and took several workshops from the Adler Institute to learn more about this practice to become a positive agent of change in the Latina Community.

Shatna enjoys being in nature, taking hikes, camping, bkie riding, traveling, reading, doing yoga, and spending time with her family.
