Mujeres Latinas en Acción

The Story Continues

Empowering Latinas through Service and Advocacy Since 1973

Founded in 1973, Mujeres Latinas en Acción stands

as

the nation's longest-standing Latina-led organization.

Rooted in Chicago’s vibrant Pilsen neighborhood, our mission is to empower Latinas by providing culturally relevant services and advocating on issues that impact their lives. Over the decades, we’ve developed comprehensive programs that promote non-violence, reproductive health, and leadership development, reflecting the values and culture of the communities we serve.

The Founders

These passionate and dedicated women embarked on a mission to “empower Latinas and their families.” They helped Latinas seek safety from domestic violence and sexual assault, even educating the police and judges and fighting for centralized courts for cases of domestic violence. Today, Mujeres is still living out Mangual’s legacy.

Our Timeline
