Associate Director of Policy & Advocacy

BASIC FUNCTION: The Associate Director of Policy & Advocacy leads our policy agenda and grassroots advocacy work. This leadership role will work across all programs and departments to guide advocacy strategies across local, state, and national platforms, supervise our Community Engagement & Mobilization Team, and ensure that the voices and priorities of Latine and immigrant women are centered in policy change.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Development & Communications

LOCATION: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive Mujeres’ annual and long-term policy agenda and will also provide updates at All-Staff meetings, attend management meetings and share key policy updates.
  2. Supervise staff and oversee grassroots leadership, civic engagement, and advocacy programs. Will also work with our interns in engaging them in advocacy work and provide a calendar of events.
  3. Represent Mujeres in coalitions, campaigns, and with elected officials.
  4. Build and sustain advocacy partnerships across sectors, setting strategic priorities for advocacy and grassroots leadership, community power building and long-term systems change.
  5. Partner with development and communications teams to secure resources and elevate community voices. Including overseeing grants related to policy, advocacy and leadership development.
  6. Contribute to organizational events and Board engagement.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in policy, advocacy, organizing, or related public affairs.
  • Demonstrated success leading campaigns or advocacy initiatives.
  • Strong team management and coalition-building skills.
  • Excellent policy writing and public speaking abilities.
  • Deep knowledge of immigrant and Latine community issues.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
  • Passion for Mujeres’ mission and community-centered justice.
  • Experience with Latine, immigrant, or social justice organizations highly desirable.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years’ experience in policy, advocacy, communications, public relations, fundraising, and/or event management.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • This position has a hybrid work schedule which includes weekly in office presence.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Travel to other Mujeres office locations.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed.

SALARY

$74,000 – $82,000
